An institute dedicated to complex systems

The Institut des Systèmes Complexes d’Île-de-France (ISC-PIF) is a gathering place of multi-disciplinary researchers focused on complex systems.

What is the science of complex systems?

The science of complex systems was born and is still growing up from theoretical questions uncovered by the whole of works dedicated to complex systems. Shared - in essence - by several research fields, this science is required to the efficient study and the good understanding of modern research data (as generated by macromolecular, neural, economic, social, cultural, ecological, and environmental systems… for instance).

For it concerns inner human complex systems and outer ecosystems where we live, the science of complex systems conciliates Science with social needs, in a sustainable way. Nowadays, a trans-disciplinary convergence exists to improve our common understanding of such systems. All over the world, and with an equal will, research institutes emerge to support these new concentrations of ideas.

The ISC-PIF is a French and European realization of this international dynamics. It’s a multi-disciplinary research and training center dedicated to the promotion of projects on complex adaptive systems. As a researcher’s meeting and knowledge sharing place, the institute organizes seminars and provides the visibility of members’ publications. The institute also contributes to elaborate a complex systems engineering, which is necessary to manipulate them. Regional network leader throughout Île-de-France, the ISC-PIF is linked to both academic and private structures concerned by complex systems.
