systems has recently attracted renewed attention as a result of the Data Science revolution. Ideally, we would like to develop tools and methods that allow in-silico simulations of real-world societal scenarios and systems. To this end, it is imperative to<br \/>\ninform models with as many details as possible about human behavior at various scales.\u00a0 This constitutes nowadays a challenge due to our current limited knowledge of the laws describing most human behavioral responses. To address the previous challenges, we need to extract behavioral rules from (either small or big) data. In this talk, we describe recent advances in this direction by analyzing and discussing several experiments involving humans -in some cases a few, in others hundreds- playing a diversity of social dilemmas.\u00a0 We also identify the experimental (data) and theoretical challenges in the study of socio-technical systems and propose a way to tackle such itemprop=\"text\" ><p>The growing interest in models of opinion dynamics, especially those that distinguish between private beliefs and publicly expressed opinions, spans several academic disciplines, from the social sciences to the hard sciences. They are commonly used to describe phenomena such as preference falsification, pluralistic ignorance, and the spiral of silence. Within these models, however, there is a notable gap in the study of social hysteresis, a concept crucial to understanding the delayed responses of societies to the rapid changes of the modern world. Therefore, in this talk, I will focus on the impact of cognitive dissonance on social hysteresis through an updated model of expressed and private opinions (EPOs). By incorporating a cognitive dissonance mitigation mechanism into an agent-based $q$-voter-type model of EPOs, we show that such a mechanism induces social hysteresis. Consequently, we argue that refraining from rationalizing publicly expressed opinions could mitigate social hysteresis and facilitate consensus, providing insights into potential strategies for class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>This presentation synthesises a recent research that includes opinion dynamics models and experiments suggested by the model results. The mathematical analysis establishes that the model&#8217;s emergent behaviours derives from cognitive biases that should appear in quite general conditions. Moreover, it seems that psychologists have not yet detected these biases. The experimental side of the research therefore includes specifically designed experiments that detect these biases in human subjects. The paper discusses the role of the model in this case, which is revealing phenomena that are almost impossible to observe without its simulations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>It has become a habit in the scientific community to note (and sometimes complain about) the exponential growth of science. In this seminar I will present a study aimed to analyze the impacts of scientific production growth on citation practices and on the diffusion of scientific literature. In this study we analyze several bibliometrics datasets concerning different scientific fields of study and we also propose a simple innovation model showcasing the impacts of the production rate on citation concentration and age. Our results show that scientific publications, due to their specific nature, face different challenges compared to other cultural products. Although the prevalent effects of platformization and overproduction are generally understood in terms of diminished attention and the fleeting prominence, science is mostly challenged by an overemphasis on established works and a resultant stagnation in the evolution of its canons. Inspired by what observed in the data, the model shows that even if the basic rules of cumulative advantage are not drastically changed in time, meaning that the reputation formation mechanisms of researchers are driven by \u00a0the same dynamics, the effect of the exponential growth, gradually drives to the concentration and the aging of scientific
