Jürgen Jost is the director of the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig. The Jürgen Jost research group is a Max Planck Institute interdisciplinary research team that on one hand carries out research in pure mathematics and on the other hand explores new approaches to complex systems in a wide range of domains, bringing in the spectrum of mathematical concepts and methods in novel ways.
During this conference, M. Jorst will propose an « exploration of chemical space », a topic at the intersection of theoretical chemistry, applied mathematics and the history of science. He will present the Reaxys database which contains all chemical reactions ever reported in the chemical literature, strating in the 19th century.
Those data allows the Jurgen Jost Research Group to trace the evolution of chemical knowledge and stimulates them to develop new mathematical techniques to explore the hypergraph structure of sets of chemical reactions.
